A FRENCH Off-Duty Police Officer Has Been Stabbed Outside His Home in a Seemingly Random Attack

The policeman was stabbed in front of his home in Étampes (Essonne) in the early hours of Thursday, January 21, reports Actu17.

The 30-year-old policeman had gone out to collect the mail from his letterbox at around 5am and then went to get something from his car, which was parked nearby.

Upon returning to his house, he was approached by two individuals, who were gloved and masked, attacking and stabbing the officer with a small blade, leaving him for dead.

Thankfully, the officer was able to make it back indoors to phone for an ambulance and he was subsequently transported to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris where, according to initial reports, he is in a stable condition.

It is unknown why the attack took place or whether the officer was directly targeted, as, at the time, he wasn’t wearing his uniform.

An investigation was entrusted to the Gendarmerie of Essonne.

Earlier this month, two French Police officers were assaulted by a gang of around fifteen people during a routine stop and check, in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis).
