Alicante Field Hospital Gets its First Covid Patients Today (January 17) to Ease Hospital Pressure

The Alicante field hospital, located on the premises of the General University Hospital of Alicante, has been put into operation on Sunday, January 17, to accommodate the hospitalisation of Covid patients with mild or moderate clinical conditions, in order to relieve pressure hospital in acute centres in the province due to the increase in cases.
The Department of Universal Health and Public Health has announced this week the fitting out of 280 beds in the three field hospitals of the Community, of which a total of 80 correspond to the Alicante field hospital, the Generalitat has indicated in a statement.
The Alicante field hospital, like its counterparts in Castelló and València, will treat patients over the age of 18 – who are positive for covid confirmed by PCR – and who have previously been admitted to an acute hospital and are recovering from the illness. The Department specifies that if they have respiratory failure, it must be corrected with low oxygen flows.
This infrastructure is divided into different hospitalisation units, which have nursing controls and medical consultations, equipped with the necessary equipment to treat patients individually – and is also being used for PCR testing.
It is also likely to be used for administering Covid vaccines, although that has yet to be confirmed.
