SHOCKED fisherman pulls an unexploded hand grenade from the Thames River during a fishing trip with a friend.

The friends were fishing near Lynmouth Road in Reading, when they made the shocking find on Saturday January, 9 at around 2.30 in the afternoon.

David Cimmino and friend Ben Lloyd were fishing near the Christchurch Bridge when the grenade was pulled from the water. David told BerkshireLive: “We’d literally just fished out a shopping trolley – we get a lot of them – when we pulled it out.

“I c*****d myself, that is the last thing you ever want to find.

“I lowered it back into the water as that’s probably the safest place for it and we had to call the police.

“Within a few minutes they’d arrived and cordoned off the area.

“A bit later the bomb squad came and took it away to carry out a controlled explosion.”

David has found many strange objects in the water in the past, including handguns and swords, but the grenade is the deadliest so far. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the river scene, and made the grenade safe.
