LA NUCIA’S Laboratio de Empresas has been shortlisted for a prestigious architectural award. Created by Crystalzoo Architects, it is in the running to be named Best Office Building of the year by the Architzer website along with competitors from the Zaha Hadid architectural studio in London and the Chicago-based Studio Gang. Lab Nucia, a municipal building financed by La Nucia town hall and the Diputacion provincial council, was inaugurated 18 months ago and last August won an Architizer prize for “Best Public Building of the Year.” The building’s creators, quoted on the Architzer site, described Lab Nucia as a dynamic and open space, able to attract corporate talent that serves as both a meeting point and a co-working space. La Nucia town hall ceded the building free to start-ups, freelancers and entrepreneurs embarking on their professional careers for two years. It is also the headquarters of La Nucia’s Association of Business and Shop-owners. Whatever the jury’s decision, to be announced at the beginning of this month, La Nucia already has a history of constructing prize-winning buildings. These include the Bello Horizonte administrative office as well as the El Captivador Environmental Education Centre, the Alicante University extension and the La Casilla Third Age centre.
