Barcelona Urban Guard will deploy 250 police officers amid fears of illegal NYE parties.
THE officers will be tasked with ensuring Covid measures and mobility restrictions are complied with as well as carrying out drink driving controls to combat parties being staged.
Head of the Urban Guard, Pedro Velázquez, said the authority is currently monitoring social networks.
“It is something that worries us,” he admitted, though as yet there are have been no indications of large gatherings.
“But are parties that are called at the last minute, which hopefully means that not many people can attend,” added Velázquez.
“The weather forecast is for a very cold night,” he warned while appealing for responsibility.
The Urban Guard has ruled out concentrations on the city’s beaches, given the weather, but is aware they could take part in public parks and other “known locations” where open-air festivals are usually held.
