10-YEAR PLAN: Calpe intends to emphasise its strong points Photo credit: Calpe town hall

CALPE town hall has mapped out its tourist strategy for the next 10 years.
All political groups on the local council voted in favour of plans that will make Calpe a competitive and sustainable holiday destination while bringing better quality of life for the local population.
The 2020-2030 plan is the outcome of intense work by the town hall, with input from residents and local business-owners who answered online surveys.  In-depth interviews with tourist sector professionals and focus groups were also taken into account.
Steps to be taken over the next decade, which have the backing of all parties, will highlight Calpe’s strong points of gastronomy, sports and water sports. The measures include suggestions from Defendamos Calpe which proposed reorganising resources and increasing the Tourism department’s personnel.
Compromis spokesman Ximo Perles said the plan’s greatest challenge would be putting it into practice, while his PSOE counterpart said it was technically “very good” but potentially incompatible with the existing PGOU urban development plan.
Ciudanos spokesman Juan Manuel del Pino, who is also Territory councillor, predicted that the ambitious plan would give Calpe “a huge boost.”
