The ‘second-wave’ of the coronavirus pandemic has left 28,145 new cases and 554 deaths in Russia in the last 24 hours, which means the country beats its daily record of infections, as reported by the Russian centre responsible for the fight against the virus.

“In the last 24 hours in Russia, 28,145 cases of covid-19 have been confirmed in the 85 regions, including 5,988 asymptomatic,” the agency said, in a statement collected by the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The record of infections reached this Thursday exceeds the previous maximum that was registered on November 27, when 27,543 cases of coronavirus were recorded in 24 hours.

With the new data, the balance of the pandemic in Russia amounts to 2,375,546 infected people, which represents an increase of 1.2 per cent compared to the previous day, and 41,607 fatalities.
