Man abused daughter while mum was in hospital

A MAN has been sentenced to six years in prison for abusing his daughter while her mother was in hospital.

The abuse began when the girl was seven, and continued after her mother died, when she was nine years old, until she was 16.

The High Court of Justice in the Basque Country has confirmed the sentence handed down by the Court in Vizcaya in 2018.

The man, from Erandio, Vizcaya, has also been issued with a six-year restraining order from his daughter and will have to pay her compensation of €6,000 plus the legal costs.

He is obliged to take part in a sex education programme.

He began abusing his daughter in the family home where they lived with her brother, when her mother had to spend nights in hospital. He got his daughter to sleep in his bed, where he touched her inappropriately.

The victim decided to report the abuse when she turned 16.
