Boris Johnson Warns the UK “Tis the season to be jolly careful”
Apart from a brief and welcome break for Christmas, millions of people in England face being in Tier 2 or 3 until March, the Prime Minister said. Despite the December 25 truce he warned: “Tis the season to be jolly careful”
The Prime Minister addressed the nation after unveiling a new, stricter tier-three lockdown system that will cover all of England until March 2. Apart from a short break over Christmas, the rules will have legal force right through until the end of March. That’s a few days before Easter on April 4 – despite breakthroughs on vaccines and promises on mass-testing.
The tiers will allow England to come out of a national lockdown and will see gyms, hairdressers, non-essential shops and many pubs and restaurants reopen. However, people are confused as huge parts of England will need to be in either Tier 2 or Tier 3 – which banish social gatherings indoors between any people who aren’t in the same household or bubble.
That means in any area in Tier 2 or 3, social gatherings in private homes, pubs and social clubs will be off the cards. Gatherings of up to six in gardens will be allowed in Tier 2. Boris Johnson told the nation: ”I should warn you now that many more places will be in higher tiers than, alas, was previously the case”.
