Men threw dogs off cliff

GUARDIA CIVIL are questioning two men accused of throwing two hunting dogs off an 80-metre cliff in San Sebastian de La Gomera (Canary Islands).

Officers from the Nature Protection Service, Seprona, with the support of the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group are investigating charges of animal abuse.

The two dogs were thrown down a ravine in the area of the Puntallana road, where local residents saw two men in a van with the two pointers tied up inside. The crime reportedly took place at night, when residents heard the dogs’ cries and saw the van again, being driven by the men, but without the dogs inside.

The officers located the exact location, found tyre tracks, and, with the help of a drone, as the cliff was too steep to climb down, found the bodies of the dogs.

They were able to locate the vehicle which still had traces of mud and two collars in the back.

The drivers were identified and will face charges in the local Magistrates Court.
