More than 200 people held a minute’s silence and gathered to express their outrage on Sunday, November 8, after the body of a 45-year-old – which showed signs of strangulation – was found in a ditch in the La Hoya district.

THE dead body of the victim, an official of the Elche Palace of Justice named only as Alicia, was discovered on Friday, November 6.

The memorial and demonstration was attended by the mayor of Elche, Carlos González, most of the Municipal Government Team, and other representatives of the local authority.

During the event, a manifesto was read on behalf of the residents of the town “in rejection of the murder”, before a minute’s silence was observed.

Two students from the La Hoya Institute performed a musical piece in “memory of the deceased and all the victims of gender violence in an atmosphere of great consternation”, said Elche Council.

“We want to give our condolences and our regrets, our support and solidarity, to Alicia’s family, friends and friends. La Hoya is speechless. Pain and helplessness have quenched the joy of daily living.

“We think of Alicia, and it is that any woman could have been her, but the terrible thing is that she can no longer be with any of us. For the memory of Alicia we ask for justice ”, the manifesto read.

The mayor said: “Our presence on behalf of the Municipal Corporation is to express our dismay over a sad and incomprehensible event; to also express our affection, solidarity and affection to family and friends and to all the residents of La Hoya who have experienced this terrible murder as a tremendously traumatic event ”.

A police investigation is underway.
