A MALE nurse was killed in a crash on the A7 Sunday, November 8.

A Benalmadena man, named as nurse Alejandro Ortiz Cabrera, was reportedly killed in a crash on the A7 motorway, involving his motorbike and another vehicle.

The biker, who had saved hundreds of lives himself in his work as a nurse with the emergency services, was well-known and loved in the town.

The 47-year-old, who was married with two small children, had travelled for miles on his bike, often accompanying the members of the Grupo Motero 222 Benalmadena bikers group, but lost his life on November 8 at kilometre 225 of the A-7 motorway near Torremolinos.

He was heading towards Malaga when he collided with a vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder on the left side of the motorway.

Guardia Civil were first on the scene and were assisted by Local Police in their attempts to save the man until the arrival of the ambulance on the scene.

However, paramedics were able only to certify his death at the scene of the accidents.

Alejandro is described by his friends and colleagues as being funny and generous, as well as exceptionally good at his job, also having trained healthcare personnel throughout the province, he was popular with staff in hospitals, the police and fire departments in the area.

He had saved hundreds of lives and also belonged to SOS CardioSport, a charity initiative in which nurses took part in races and other events equipped with defibrillators, reducing the risk of sudden death among runners.

The 28 other bikers from Grupo Motero 222 have prepared a tribute video in which they say farewell to their friend and show their support for his family, and have promised that as soon as they can they will give him the tribute he deserves.

Many local residents have expressed their sadness upon hearing the news on a local Facebook group.
