DOWNING STREET has revealed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed during a phone call on Saturday (November 7) to “redouble efforts” to reach a trade deal.

It revealed however that Johnson had told the President that there remained “significant differences” in the negotiations between the UK and the EU negotiations, as both sides had opposing positions over fishing rights and the so called ‘level playing field’ agreement.

As time to final divorce gets ever closer, it is understood that additional talks had taken place between the UK’s chief negotiator David Frost and his EU equivalent Michel Barnier so that their two leaders could try to come to some form of agreement in London later this month.
