Spain’s Basque Country Announces Hotels and Restaurants to Close By 10.00 Pm from Saturday

Spain’s Basque Country Announces Hotels and Restaurants Close By 10.00 Pm from Saturday.

The Basque Country has announced it will close its hotel and restaurants at 22:00 on Saturday. At the same time, it intends to introduce a series of mobility restrictions and measures to try to stop the transmission of COVID-19 within the community.

The lehendakari, Spanish Politician Iñigo Urkullu, chaired a meeting of the advisory council of the Basque Civil Protection Plan on Thursday and later announced the tightening of the restrictions currently in force in the Basque Country- the positivity rate in the country is now running at 10%. The decree, will in principle will be in force throughout the entire month of November, (the Official Gazette of the Basque Country will be published this Friday and will come into force on Saturday).

Starting on Saturday, socio-economic activities will not be allowed after 9:00 p.m. and will affect all commercial establishments with the exception of pharmacies and service stations. All activities, including cultural shows, must finish at 9.00 pm also, states the decree.

The Basque Government has also decided to reduce the capacity in places of worship to 35% and suspend any group sporting activity, with the exception of professional or semi-professional competition, as well as to prohibit attendance at sporting events. In this regard, it is clarified that courses or programmed activities may be carried out in gyms, sports clubs, swimming pools and sports centres as long as they are carried out with a mask, in groups of maximum six people and with a maximum capacity of 40%.

The decree also sets the maximum departure time for public transport at 10:30 p.m., although if carried out by taxi or a vehicle with driver is excluded from this limitation. As of October 27, social gatherings cannot exceed six people and alcohol cannot be sold between 8 pm and 8 am.

An evaluation of the situation will be made every 15 days to see what effect these measures may have had on the evolution of the pandemic. At the end of November, it may be possible to progressively deactivate the new measures in the event that a downward curve is achieved in contagions. According to the latest figures just released on Thursday, the coronavirus rate exceeded 763 cases- there are now 107 patients in ICU beds compared to the 74 there were on October 26.
