Maradona’s surgery “successful” after blood clot on the brain

Diego Maradona has undergone successful surgery after a blood clot on the brain, his doctor has confirmed.

IN a statement, Leopoldo Luque said the operation at a private hospital in Buenos Aires was “all successful” and that the former Argentinian footballer is “lucid”.

The one hour and 20-minute operation took place yesterday, November 3, less than a week after the World Cup winner’s 60th birthday.

Maradona was taken to hospital on Monday for a series of tests after feeling unwell.

A scan revealed the blood clot, which Argentine press are speculating was the result of a blow to the head – while the star has claimed he has no recollection of any accident.

Luque reportedly suggested the lifestyle of the current head coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata may have contributed to his condition.

He said the “Hand of God” goal scorer is “an elderly patient with many pressures in life”, and ruled out any link to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Maradona’s history of drug and alcohol abuse and poor health makes him high risk of coronavirus complications should he be infected.

The captain of the 1986 World Cup-winning team, will recuperate in a private clinic near Buenos Aires for at least 48 hours.
