A huge tobacco haul, reportedly worth €35k, was seized in Dublin Airport after arriving on a flight from Spain
The tobacco was found in the checked luggage of a British national arriving from Spain. Revenue Officials at Dublin airport say they searched the checked baggage as part of routine profiling.
The 60kg haul, branded ‘Golden Virginia’ and ‘Amber Leaf’ represented a potential loss of €29,500 to the Exchequer. The smuggler had arrived on a flight from Alicante in Spain’s Costa Blanca on Friday, October 30.
A Revenue spokeswoman said: “Investigations are ongoing.
“These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products in the shadow economy.
“If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Freephone 1800 295 295.”
Earlier in October, Revenue Officials intercepted €48’000 worth of tobacco in two separate smuggling operations in Dublin airport.
