Farmer killed his mum, then shot himself

Farmer who killed his mum and then shot himself worried about his animals

John Bound, 59, shot his 80-year-mother Gwendoline Christine Bound before turning the gun on himself at their home in Abergwili, a country village in Wales.

An inquest heard that Mrs Bound died after being shot in the chest while her son died after suffering head injuries just eight days after the beginning of lockdown in March.

Mr Bound, a herd sheep farmer, had confided in friends that he was concerned about the lockdown, worrying that he would not be able to check on his animals. He is said to have told them that “he didn’t know how he would cope.”

Mr Bound was described as a devoted son, with his mother often saying “she would not have been able cope without his help.”

The Coroner said: “Their deaths had undoubtedly left their family utterly devastated.

“I hope they are reminded of how they lived their lives and not how they tragically died.”
