Breaking News – FOURTEEN dead and 200 injured after earthquake strikes Turkey and Greece

At least 12 people have died and a further 200 are injured in Turkey following the  7.0-magnitude earthquake which rattled Turkey and Greece on Friday, October 30.

The disaster management authority reports that one of those who perished in Turkey drowned, while a further two teenagers have died on the Greek Islands.

The quake caused a mini-tsunami that sent debris from buildings racing down Turkish streets near Izmir where at least six buildings were flattened.

Turkey’s interior minister Suleyman Soylu said six buildings had collapsed in two parts of Izmir, while Mayor Tunc Soyer said nearly 20 buildings had collapsed in the province.

People poured into the streets in panic in Izmir city following the quake, witnesses said. Izmir’s’govenor said 70 people have so far been rescued from the rubble.

A boy and girl, both teenagers were found unconscious in an area where a wall had collapsed in the town of Vathy, according to emergency officials. They were pronounced dead shortly afterward.
