FOR their latest Winter League match, the Teulada-Moraira Fishing Club fished the River Jucar’s A3 section in neighbouring Valencia province.
The day started with a great turnout of 16 contestants and the river was like a mill pond, making fishing very pleasant.
Best catch of the day – 18.73 kilos – went to Jason Lawson.  Malcolm Hunt, who had the second-best catch of 17.78 kilos, also had the finest specimen fish of the season with a 6.9-kilo carp.
The club’s “master of all things small” was again in action with 20 fish that weighed in at a total of 500 grammes.
The club president was trying a new ground bait but still without much luck although as another member pointed out, “Putting some bait on the hook might help.”
A total of 72 fish were caught, weighing 111 kilos in all, with only two members returning empty nets.
“We are a very friendly club and always happy to welcome new members,” the secretary said.
