A guard has been stabbed at a French consulate in Saudi Arabia
The man was stabbed with a ‘sharp tool’ as he stood guard outside the French consulate compound in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to local media.
The attack comes after a woman has been ‘beheaded’ and a man’s throat has been cut in a terror attack in France.
The attack in Paris, France comes as President Emmanuel Macron has defended controversial Prophet Mohammed cartoons, a move which has sparked outrage across the Islamic world.
In Saudi Arabia, the guard is said to be in a stable condition in hospital, while his assailant was arrested at the scene.
French diplomats called on Saudi authorities to “shed light on this attack” and ensure the safety of French people in the kingdom as an “attack on diplomatic premises can never be justified”.
“We call on our colleagues in Saudi Arabia to show maximum vigilance,” the embassy said.
