BENIDORM’S Policia Local force (PLBND) is now taking part in the Escudos Solidarios (Solidarity Badges) initiative.
Entitled Para los Valientes, hazlo por ellos, lucha por ellos (For the Brave, do it for them, fight for them), the town’s officers have joined more than 160 other Policia Local forces throughout Spain in raising money to help fight childhood cancer.
In Benidorm this is channelled through Aspanion, an association for the parents of children and adolescents who are battling cancer in the Valencian Community.
All funds raised will go to the Sant Joan de Deu Pediatric Children’s Hospital in Barcelona, one of Europe’s largest and most important centres for paediatric oncology.
For a €5 donation, members of public can buy a Benidorm Policia Local badge embroidered with gold thread – the colour that symbolises the campaign against childhood cancer – and features the #paralosvalientes slogan which identifies the children’s own fight.
An awning erected in front of the principal entrance at Benidorm town hall, announcing the launch of the Benidorm officers’ initiative, was visited by Benidorm’s mayor Toni Perez and Public Safety councillor Lorenzo Martinez , accompanied by members of the municipal Corporation.
They were there to get the local scheme off to a good start although the Little Gladiators badges are also available at the Policia Local station in Calle Grecia and shops that collaborate with Aspanion.
There is one more thing that Escudos Solidarios collaborators can do, as they are asked to upload their photos with the badges on the social media with the #paralosvalientesPLBND hashtag to give as much visibility as possible to the initiative.
