A six-year-old girl has been brutally raped and murdered on her way to a local shop to buy sweets

LITTLE Inathi Mhlahlo left her home in Mdantsane, South Africa on Monday, October 26 to walk the short distance to a local shop to buy sweets and crisps. But when she didn’t return home, her family became concerned and sounded the alarm.

Relatives became even more worried when the shop owner said he hadn’t seen her that day.

Five hours after she initially went missing, her family received a call to say her body had been found.

Inathi’s heartbroken mum, Thandiwe said: “They could not tell me what happened, but I knew my child was dead.”

The child’s body was found stripped of underwear with a stab wound to her neck.

Captain Khaya Tonjeni of the local police force said: “Vulindlela police station detectives are hard at work investigating the murder, after the body of a six-year-old girl was discovered next to the road in NU8.

“She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was dead on arrival.

“Crime scene experts are combing the scene, looking for clues that could help us with the investigation of Inathi Abukwe Mhlahlo’s murder.”
