‘Hayride’ horror accident kills one and injures 17.

A WOMAN died and 17 other people were hurt when a hayrack ride overturned in Hamilton, Illinois.

A statement from the Illinois State Police confirmed Wayne York, 41, was towing a tractor-trailer with more than 20 passengers riding on hay bales when it overturned shortly after 9pm.

York is believed to have “lost control and ran off the right side” of the road onto an incline, causing the tractor and wagon to slide down a ravine.

Several passengers – aged between 1 and 43 – were thrown from the vehicle, said the Hancock County department.

A Hamilton woman, 32, died as a result of the incident.

The driver was issued with a penalty for ‘failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident’.
