France surpasses 1 million mark in coronavirus cases

France surpasses 1 million mark in coronavirus cases as the country witnesses a large spike in infections.

France is the most recent country to surpass 1 million coronavirus cases as they struggle with an ongoing spike.

The Health Authorities in France announced on Friday, October 23, that the figure had officially risen past the landmark figure becoming the second Western European country to top the figure of known infections.

The actual confirmed case figures for Spain released by the national health agency are 1,041,075. This figure includes a whopping 42,032 new cases in one 24-hour period from Thursday to Friday.

Whilst the figure is already astonishing, health experts have warned that the total number of actual infections is potentially much greater due to lack of testing at the start of the pandemic and asymptomatic cases.

In France the second wave of the infection has seen ICU bed occupancy from coronavirus soar to 42% nationally, while in Paris the figure is at 64%.
