Tragic mum takes her own life as baby’s body found

TRAGIC mum takes her own life as the body of her baby son is found at home an hour later.

After the body of paediatric nurse Nicola Keane, 34, was found under a toll bridge near Dublin, Gardai went to her house in Lucan where they woke her husband and found seven-month-old son Harry dead.

The devastated father was unaware that his baby boy was dead in the upstairs room, it is understood.

A spokesperson for an Garda Siochana reported that Nicola, who worked at Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin Hospital, was ‘spotted behaving erratically’ in the area of the M50 toll bridge at around 3:45am on Thursday, October 22. Her body was found after she had jumped from the bridge.

A hospital report alleged that Nicola had been suffering from postnatal depression. The baby’s death was officially classified as “unexplained” after a post-mortem was conducted, with a hospital source adding: “Asphyxiation, but it may have been an accident.”

Detectives found no signs of violence or evidence of a violent death during a forensic examination of the house, it is reported.
