Lonely gran begs to see her family

LONELY gran has sent a heart-breaking message as she begs to see her family.

Mary Fowler, 104, is a resident of Balfarg Care Home in Glenrothes, Fife. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, she hasn’t had any physical contact with her family in months.

Locked down since March, Mary has only had brief visits with one of her children, who she had to speak to through a window. Now Mary has recorded a heart-breaking message telling the world the restrictions are ‘cutting her to bits’.

Mary insisted that while she is “very well looked after” at Balfarg, she needs to see her children.

“I want my family though,” she cried. “This is my right, please help. It’s cutting me to bits. I must see my kids, because time is getting on for me.”

Cathie Russell, who runs the Care Homes Relatives Scotland Campaign supported Mary’s plea by taking to Twitter, saying that the gran is “at the end of her tether”.

At the daily coronavirus briefing on Wednesday, October 21, Nicola Sturgeon said testing for care home visitors will be a “priority” in her forthcoming review but she stressed there is no easy solution.
