Scotland’s First Minister said the new measures will allow the government to impose different restrictions across Scotland depending on the prevalence of the virus in that area.
Nicola Sturgeon announced a five-tier lockdown restriction plan during today’s daily briefing. Sturgeon gave an assurance that there would be no return to the March-style lockdown. She also emphasised that even under the highest level of restrictions schools and businesses will remain open.
The First Minister went on to confirm that 18 people died yesterday from the virus with 1,401 new cases recorded.
If approved at Holyrood on Tuesday, the new measures will come into force in Scotland on Monday, November 2. They will be reviewed on a weekly basis. She said the tiers start at ‘level zero’ which she described as ‘the closest to normality we think it is safe to get to.’ Indoor meetings are allowed for up to eight people and businesses are open.
