NEW covid restrictions have come into effect in the Region of Murcia: Here’s what to expect.

In new measures, which began yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, to stop the spread of covid across the region, the Murcian health authority has introduced stricter safety measures and upped restrictions across twelve municipalities and several residential districts of the cities of Murcia and Cartagena.

The new restrictions were published in the BORM (The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia) and here are the list of areas affected:
Abanilla, Alhama de Murcia, Archena, Beniel, Cieza, Fortuna, Fuente Álamo, Jumilla, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Totana and Santomera.
Murcia districts of: Javalí Nuevo, Javalí Viejo, La Ñora, Rincón de Beniscornia, Puebla de Soto, Rincón de Seca, La Raya, Nonduermas, Era Alta, La Arboleja, Los Dolores, San Ginés and Puente Bacinos.
They are also applicable in the neighbourhoods of El Carmen, Barriomar-La Purísima, Buenos Aires, Infante Juan Manuel, Vistabella, San Andrés, San Antón, San Miguel, San Antolín, San Nicolás, San Pedro, Santa Catalina, Vistabella, Polígono de La Paz, La Fama, Santa Eulalia and San Juan.
In Cartagena, the neighbourhood of San Antón.

The latest restrictions and rule changes have been set for the next seven days, although they may be extended if they prove to be insufficient in the fight against the coronavirus.

Here is a list of the new restrictions:

  • Totana, Fortuna and Abanilla will remain in flexible phase 1 confinement for a further week.
  • 40% of the maximum capacity inside bars and restaurants.
  • Opening and closing hours for food and beverage stores will be closed between 10pm and 6am.
  • An extension of 30 days to the regular transport of travelers and private vehicles set out by government guidelines.
  • 50% bus capacity for cities that were not following already.
  • Motorcycles, mopeds and category L vehicles that have two seats (driver and passenger), two people may travel. The use of gloves will be mandatory for the passenger and also for the driver in the case of motorcycles and mopeds intended for shared use. For these purposes, motorcycle protection gloves will be accepted.
  • In vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, all seats may be occupied as long as they all live together.
  • In vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, when not all of them live in the same address, 50% of the available seats may be occupied, provided that they respect the maximum possible distance between occupants.
  • In vehicles in which, due to their technical characteristics, only one row of seats is available, e.g. heavy vehicles (lorries), vans, or others, a maximum of two people may travel, provided they keep the maximum possible distance (this is the case if the passengers do not live together).
  • In buses, in which all occupants must be seated, 50% of the seats may be used. When the occupancy level allows it, the maximum separation between users must be obtained.
  • In urban and peri-urban public collective passenger transport, in which there are platforms enabled for the transport of standing passengers, 50% of the seated places may be occupied, and an occupancy reference of two users per square meter will be maintained in the area enabled to travel standing, having to ensure, in any case, the greatest separation between passengers.
  • In vehicles with an odd number of seats, the occupancy will be rounded up from 50%. (E.g. in cars with 5 seats, the maximum number of travellers is 3).
  • Whenever a person travels in a vehicle who does not live in the same address as the other passengers, the use of a mask will be mandatory for all of them.
  • The continuous renewal of the interior air of the vehicles should be maintained, preferably through natural ventilation with the partial or total opening of the windows when it is technically possible and the weather conditions allow it.
