Defiant OAP blasts South Yorkshire’s Tier 3 lockdown.
THE 83-year-old is one of around 1.4 million people in South Yorkshire who will be thrust into ‘very high risk’ Tier 3 lockdown from Saturday, October 24, with Doncaster, Sheffiield, Rotherham and Barnsley facing stricter rules after a £41million deal.
But speaking to the BBC, the straight talking pensioner said she won’t be “fastened” in her home and said she didn’t “give a sod” about the lockdown.
The woman from Barnsley slammed the move as “ridiculous” adding: “I look at it this way I’ve not got all that many years left of me and I’m not going to be fastened in a house when the government have got it all wrong.”
She said the country needs to get back on its feet and questioned where the money was going to come from.
“By the end of this year, there’s going to be millions of people unemployed and you know who’s going to pay for that? All the young ones. Not me because I’m going to be dead,” she added.
In Tier 3, pubs and bars which don’t serve food will have to close, along with casinos, betting shops and soft play areas.
Wedding receptions will not be allowed, but gyms and leisure centres can remain open though group classes will have to stop.
Despite criticism, PM Boris Johson said on Wednesday, October 21, that there are encouraging signs with “areas which have gone into tier 3 are already making progress” in bringing cases down.
