Covid-19 is ‘back with full force’ in Germany

Covid-19 is ‘back with full force’ in Germany, according to state premier of Bavaria, Markus Söder.

Bavaria’s state premier Markus Söder announced on Tuesday, October 20 that Covid-19 is ‘back with full force’ as Germany’s cases have risen sharply to more than 6,500 per day.

Though marginally better than some other European countries, in Germany the all-important re-infection rate has been constantly above one for more than two weeks, with close to 30 deaths being recorded per day.

This comes as German Health Minister Jens Spahn tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday afternoon, October 21.

One Alpine district has already been put back into lockdown, with Söder warning that the virus is in danger of ‘spinning out of control’ in the country.

He told Bavaria’s state parliament that ‘corona is back with full force … the second wave is here.’

‘Our priority is to avoid a blanket lockdown,’ he said, adding that he would introduce a ‘dark red’ alert level with tougher restrictions for areas with 100 new cases per 100,000 people over seven days.
