Concerns in Almeria over new restrictions which see Albox become a ‘Ghost Town’ at night.
As reported on Wednesday, October 22, by Euro Weekly News, Albox Town Hall has placed a new range of further measures to help curve the increasing number of cases of Covid-19.
Affecting close to 11,700 people, the restrictions will see a further range of measure to the public’s freedom as the region tries to bring the coronavirus spread under control.
In a hand delivered letter from Albox Council, it states that the new restrictions are temporary and will only last until November 3.
Euro Weekly News spoke with a number of locals about the new restrictions and the effect it has had on the area and their lives.
Jackie, a local resident, said, “It’s like a ghost town at night here. All the bars shut at 10 and then there is no one. But I suppose at least everyone is doing their part.”
Local business owner, James, said, “What is good to see is that all businesses are being thorough and committed to following the new guidance.”
He continued, “Businesses are complying 100 per cent, but it is a real shame that the market has gone. The market is what creates a lot of the atmosphere here and it will be good when it is finally back.”
We spoke to one bar owner, who preferred not to be named, who said, “There is a high presence of police in the area checking to ensure that bars and restaurants are all following the restriction but there are also a number of plain-clothed officers who are trying to catch us out.”
He continued, “I guess they are only doing their job, but it does put people on edge.”
However, there could be hope on the horizon for residents after Albox Council hand delivered letters to residents stating that restrictions are expected to only last until November 3.
The latest measures to hit the regions include:
*Care homes for the elderly – no visits or trips.
*Fifty per cent capacity in all bars and restaurants with a maximum of six people per table.
*Chairs must be 1.5 metres apart and tables three metres apart. They must close at 10pm, though takeaways will still be allowed.
*Fifty per cent capacity in shops/commercial establishments, which must also close at 10pm unless essential service such as petrol station, doctors surgery or vets.
*There will be a maximum of 15 people allowed at open funerals and 10 at indoor services.
*At open air weddings, a maximum of 30 people will be allowed and they must be seated.
*Albox’s Tuesday and Saturday markets have been suspended.
Almeria currently remains below the rest of the Andalucian provinces with the fewest infections.
