Canary Islands, Denmark, Maldives and Mykonos added to UK’s safe travel list.

FROM 4am on Sunday, October 25, people arriving in England from the Canary Islands, Denmark, the Maldives and Mykonos will not need to self-isolate.

They have been added to the list after being assessed by the Joint Biosecurity Centre as “posing a lower infection risk” following a decrease in confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Returning travellers will no longer need to self-isolate, “so long as they haven’t been in or transited through any other non-exempt countries in the 14 days preceding their arrival”, said the Department of Transport.

Meanwhile, Liechtenstein has been removed from list of travel corridors for the UK following data showing a significant increase in confirmed cases.

All passengers returning from Liechtenstein from 4am on Sunday October 25 will be required to self-isolate for 14 days after a “significant change in both the level and pace of confirmed cases”.

A range of factors are taken into account when deciding to remove a country from the exemption list, including the continued increase of coronavirus within a country, the numbers of new cases, information on a country’s testing capacity, testing regime and test positivity rate, and potential trajectory of the disease in the coming weeks.

Data from Liechtenstein shows that the weekly incidence (cases) per 100,000 has increased from 65.1 on October 14 to 244.9 on October 21.

This equates to a 276 per cent increase.
