Beauty therapy student caught with £500 of heroin

BEAUTY therapy student caught with £500 of heroin claimed it was to get her through the “desperation” caused by lockdown.

Police raided the home of Pauline Stewart, a 38-year old beauty therapy student, at 5:10pm on May 27 to enforce a search warrant on an “unrelated matter”. They found two bags of brown powder on her coffee table.

Stewart admitted that the powder found in her home in Edinburgh was heroin, but claimed it was ‘for personal use’. The stash was said to be 6.5g and worth £500.

She was excused attendance at court on Wednesday, October 21 but her guilty plea to heroin possession was accepted in her absence.

The court heard that Stewart had “lapsed back into drug taking” after her beauty therapy course was cancelled during the coronavirus lockdown.

Stewart’s solicitor Edward Cadden told the court that the “time and desperation” of being “locked in her own house” had caused the student to “slip back into a heroin habit”.

Sheriff Adrian Fraser deferred sentence for reports until December.
