Give a dog a bad name

CATALUÑA’S College of Veterinary Surgeons (CVC) has noticed that owners are giving the name of Covid to new pets.

Cori Escoda, the president of the CVC committee, revealed that 27 dogs have been registered as Covid in Cataluña and nine cats.

The CCVC attributes the choice of name to the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic has become a reality for the Catalan population, Escoda told the La Vanguardia newspaper.

Not that Covid is the most popular name for a Cataluña pet, as the favourite name for a dog is Lluna or Luna (Moon) which has been chosen by 32,558 owners, followed by Kira (20,962) and Nina (12,620).

Luna is also the most popular name for a cat, and is borne by 3,244 felines, followed by Nina (2,619) and Lola (1,695).
