Miracle donor find sees one-year-olds chance of survival skyrocket

Miracle donor find sees one-year-olds chance of survival skyrocket as he suffers potentially life threatening genetic disease.

Reign Miller-Hardy, from Barry, South Wales, has been found a bone marrow donor just days after his first birthday.

Miller-Hardy was suffering from an extremely rare and deadly genetic condition which required a one-in-a-million bone marrow donor.

The condition, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), sees healthy tissue and organs subject to an attack by his own immune system, with attacks occurring in the liver, heart and brain among other vital organs within the body.

However, after an exceptional public campaign by his family, a donor was miraculously found who was the exact required match for the child. This transplant now increases his chance of survival to around 80%.

The family is overjoyed at the finding of a compatible donor and now hold out hope for his future.
