Dinosaur skeletons and eggs seized in the Port of Valencia

DINOSAUR skeletons and eggs seized in the Port of Valencia.

A total of 4000 specimens were discovered, including a prehistoric horse tooth, dinosaur eggs and a complete specimen of a dinosaur skeleton. The local police disclosed that the fossils would have had a street value of €150million if sold on the black market.

The culprits had also hidden several live animals in the shipment amongst the fossils, allegedly in the hopes of smuggling them to Europe.

The container was initially inspected from the outside by agents of the National Police and the Tax Agency in February at the Port of Valencia; a further search of the interior in March led to the findings. The information wasn’t made public until October.

Argentine Customs Authorities alerted the Spanish authorities and it was confirmed that the haul, considered to be “of great paleontological value” was illegally imported from the Rosendo Pascual Paleontological Museum in Argentina.
