THE Motril Town Hall has announced the IV edition of the ‘Carrera de la Mujer’, whose format this year 2020 will be virtual due to health circumstances.
In a presentation on Wednesday, September 30, reference was made to the consequences derived from the confinement phase, and even from all the months that have elapsed since the Covid-19 pandemic began for cancer patients.
It is a very difficult time for them, in which they have not only had to suffer the consequences of the disease, but also the situation of vulnerability they face due to the weakness of their defences during the treatments they must undergo.
Precisely, now more than ever, patients and their families need support. In the case of Motril, “the response of the public has always been strong and exemplary,” said Mayor Luisa María García Chamorro, during the presentation of the IV Carrera de la Mujer.
García Chamorro has asked that “we all take our hands to our hearts and remember family, friends, acquaintances, people of all ages and even very young people who have suffered from the disease and that it causes us tremendous pain.”

The Deputy Mayor for Social Action and Citizen Participation, Inmaculada Torres Alaminos, wanted to stress the importance of the race “which will be virtual, but which will mean a very important financial support for the association  so that it can continue to provide such necessary human support to patients and families, something that represents invaluable and tremendous work.”
The Deputy Mayor for Tourism, José Lemos, praised the work of the association, as well as those responsible for the Time Sports Centre, which organizes the event, the proceeds of which will go to the AECC. “I encourage everyone to participate, at a time when the focus is on Covid, but we have to also remember we cannot abandon members of this association but continue to fight against cancer.”

The person in charge of the Time sports centre, Francisco Álvarez Moyano, thanked the municipal support and involvement in an event that will not be held on the street and that will have a digital format: “the race must be held between October 19 and 25, with open registrations on the web wwww.timecentrodeportivo.com. Once the payment has been made, an application can be downloaded ”.
Álvarez explained that, during those days, the participant will carry out his race through a free circuit that will be registered by the application that, finally, will establish a classification. The price of the registration will be 6 euros and will include a shirt.
The president of the AECC of Motril, María Dolores Martín, is very grateful and said “cancer has always been there, is and will continue. Everything has stopped and that is why we need help to move forward in this fight in which this people has always been, both against breast cancer and many others … ”
