Wheelie wonderful charity fundraiser completes wheelchair challenge

A wheelie wonderful charity fundraiser has completed the equivalent of 10.6 marathons in a wheelchair, a challenge he set for himself to raise awareness and money for spinal injury charities.

ADRIAN LEAKE was injured when he was hit by a car four years ago whilst he was doing a charity bike ride, resulting in doctors giving him a 5% chance of walking.

However, he proved them wrong and is now raising money and awareness with his challenge.

The wonderful man from Staffordshire, who went through months of rehabilitation to learn to walk again, has been raising money for spinal injury charities after setting himself the challenge of completing 280 miles in a wheelchair.

Finally, after six long weeks, and using just the paths near his home in Rugeley, he has completed his challenge!

With encouragement from users on Facebook, friends and family, and raising over £800 in donations, Adrian completed the 280.04 miles in a wheelchair yesterday.

“That is the equivalent of 10.6 marathons!” he said in his Facebook post.

“I can’t believe it’s all over. The last two miles took forever I thought I hit the wall but I didn’t, it was my right tyre that was completely flat.

“Someone mentioned to do a lap of honour around my estate and so I did,” he continued.

He concluded by saying he, “Finished off with a Chinese takeaway and a Guinness.

Going to sleep like a baby tonight”.

It’s an amazing achievement for a man who suffered a broken back and was airlifted to hospital to have emergency surgery on his spine.
