Liverpool’s new-signing Thiago tests positive for Covid-19

Liverpool’s new-signing Thiago Alcântara tests positive for Covid-19 and is set to miss the upcoming Carabao Cup game.

AFTER making his Liverpool debut in their 2-0 win over Chelsea on September 20, Thiago has not featured since and its because he has been in self-isolation following a positive coronavirus test.

Fans were disappointed not to see the £20m midfielder play against Arsenal on Monday 28 after he impressed during his second half display at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is said to be in good health and is getting better. Thiago will now remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.

LFC first-team doctor, Dr Jim Moxon, said: “It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a Covid-19 test.

“We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is OK. He will be self-isolating now as per the guidelines and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon.”

The positive Covid-19 test for new-signing Thiago has hopefully been caught in time so it does not affect the rest of the squad as they will want to continue their winning ways with a healthy team.

It’s a major blow for the former Bayern Munich player who will now miss his second Liverpool game against Arsenal, following the game he missed on Monday, as the two side meet again, this time in tomorrow’s Carabao Cup match.

He also looks set to miss Sunday’s Premier League game when the Champions visit Aston Villa.

If everything goes well with his recovery and tests come back negative then he should be available for the trip to Everton on 17 October, which will delight fans.
