Campello town hall foils frontline bookers

Campello town hall foils frontline bookers so early risers who “book” prime spots on Campello’s beaches but roll up hours later, now lose their sun beds and beach umbrellas.

For some days now, operatives from the town hall’s Services and Public Safety departments have been gathering up unattended belongings and taking them to the Policia Local station for collection by their owners.

Beachgoers, who also face the prospect of fines of up to €750, obviously took the lesson to heart as the first day’s haul of “dozens” of umbrellas, deckchairs and folding tables was reduced to two chairs in less than a week.

Services and Public Services councillors Julio Oca and Rafa Galvañ expressed satisfaction with the bylaw introduced at the beginning of July.

Municipal employees will continue to keep watch until the end of the summer season on Campello’s beaches and coves, removing all objects that have been left unattended for some time, Oca and Galvañ said.
