Saudi Arabia allows El Al airline to overfly en route to UAE

AS part of the plan to ‘normalise’ relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the US Government has applied pressure on Saudi Arabia to allow Israeli airline El Al to enter Saudi airspace.

The first direct flight ever to use this option, El AL 971 arrived in Abu Dhabi from Tel Aviv on Monday August 31 bringing an American delegation led by White House spokesman Jared Kushner and this was followed by another flight carrying Israeli diplomats.

Now the Saudi Government though its Civil Aviation Authority has announced that it has agreed that will allow all incoming and outgoing flights to the UAE — from any country in the world (without specifically mentioning Israel) — to pass through Saudi airspace.

Following the visit to UAE, Kushner then met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman, who confirmed the agreement and the pair discussed the need to engage the Palestine Authority in peace negotiations with Israel.
