CLEAR RUN: Streambeds cleared, ready for rain Photo credit: Javea town hall
ACCUSTOMED to eliminating fire risks Javea is now preparing for possible flooding as autumn approaches. The town hall’s Services department has begun its annual clearing and cleaning of gullies, streams and streambeds to ensure that these do not overflow or become clogged during the torrential rains that occur each September. Municipal operatives began at the Tosalet and Puchol streams before moving on to all of those on Montgo, removing in each case all vegetation that could impede the flow of the water, Services councillor Kika Mata said. Storm drains and gratings are also due for a clean, Mata announced, and work has already started in zones like Avenida Fontana and Via Augusta routinely that prove “conflictive” whenever rainfall is particularly heavy.
