A British woman has tragically died in speed boat hit-and-run

A BRITISH woman has tragically died in a speed boat hit-and-run, while on holiday on the Greek island of Corfu after being hit by a speedboat, according to reports.

The 60-year-old is understood to have suffered severe leg and head injuries after the vessel’s propeller hit her as she swam out from the shore.

Swimmers discovered her body close to Avlaki beach on the northeast of the island on Monday, August 31, as reported by local news site EPT.

It said she had been hit by a speedboat towing a water skier and the boat, with the skier, then fled the scene, in a devastating hit and run.

The woman was taken to Corfu General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival after her femoral artery was cut, the local news site said.

EPT said her husband and daughter had been informed of her death and that the port authorities are “very close” to arresting the boat’s driver.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: “We are in contact with the local authorities following reports that a British woman has died in Corfu.”

According to EPT, more than 15 people have died in the past five years in Greece as a result of speedboat accidents.
