Three people died this morning in Madrid when the vehicle in which they were travelling crashed into a tree.

THE police are now urgently looking for the two occupants of a second car involved in the accident who have fled the area. The event took place this morning on the old road to Extremadura, in the municipality of Móstoles, Madrid. The deceased are a man, a woman and a minor.

The emergency services received a call at 01.48am this morning to report the accident. The municipal police, fire brigade and Guardia Civil, together with 112 rescue teams, found the two vehicles which were involved in the accident at kilometre 20 on the old Extremadura highway.

It is thought that one car had lost control, skidded off the road and collided with a tree. A 30-year-old man was found dead, a woman who could not be identified because she did not carry documentation and a younger person. A fourth occupant of the damaged vehicle, a 12-year-old girl, was rescued alive with fractures to her ankles and tibia and was transferred to the 12 de Octubre hospital in a serious condition.

A second damaged vehicle was found several metres from the first, overturned but without occupants, who according to witnesses there were two, and had apparently fled the scene after the accident occurred. The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the case, it is investigating the cause of the accident and the whereabouts of the occupants who fled.
