WORK began in Calpe on covering the court where the Valencian ballgame Pelota is played.
Once covered, games can continue during bad weather and the alley-shaped court, built in 2006, will get more use, the town hall’s Sports department said.
Installing the translucent polycarbonate panels, installing a suspended sliding door and new lighting is expected to take a month to complete and the €115,000 cost has been subsidised by the Diputacion provincial council.
The economical LED lighting can also be turned on in separate phases bringing further savings, Sports department sources said.
rocodromo climbing wall was recently added to the Pelota court so that young people could start to learn the principles of rock climbing.
