THERE appears to be some confusion regarding the new rules related to smoking in public places, in most communities in Spain.
To clarify these confusing new rules, the official boja states –
“Smoking may not be allowed on public roads or in outdoor spaces when a minimum interpersonal distance of at least two metres cannot be respected. This limitation will also be applicable for the use of any other tobacco inhalation device, water pipes, hookahs or similar, including electronic cigarettes or vaping.”
Which is what has caused the confusion with the new rules.
So, in theory, smoking at a table outside bars and restaurants cannot be permitted. This is due to the fact, that waiting staff and other customers may wish to pass by your table, which may then infringe upon the two-metre distance, it would also mean that just one person could sit at each table which is not financially viable for most establishments.
