Residents evicted by forest fire
THE residents of Colmenar, had a hot and stressful weekend. During the early hours of Saturday to Sunday August 15 and 16, approximately 50 people had to be evacuated from their homes due to a forest fire. With the difficulty of the strong winds, after 12 hours of work by over 60 Firefighters from Infoca and the Firefighters of the Malaga Council, at around 10am on Sunday it was reported that the flames were under control and neighbours had been able to return to their homes. However, the Malaga Fire Brigade reported after 10.30pm on Sunday of a new departure of the Colmenar and Periana crews when the fire started once more in the area near the A-4152 road that connects Cerro del Eagle with Alfarnate. “We do not know if it has affected our neighbour’s house, since the flames were very close to the north wall. As soon as we realised, we started shouting for them to come out. In our case we took two babies out of the house because of all the smoke. “he said. According to the neighbours, during the afternoon they were observing “that the ground gave off a lot of heat and there were spots of small fires”.
