ALZHEIMER’S disease is one that causes so much pain for those loved ones who suddenly become carers for a spouse or parent and this is particularly difficult when you are in a foreign country such as Spain.

The La Cala de Mijas Lions are very aware of the need that people in this situation have for advice, support and even just a chance to discuss what is happening with others in a similar situation.

Now they are launching a brand-new Alzheimer’s and Dementia group which will meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Bar Tuta, Urb. Jardin Botanico from 11.30am to 1.30pm with the first meeting being held on Monday July 27.

Trained staff and a qualified nurse will offer free assistance with medical enquiries, respite care, translations and filling in of forms but just as importantly, Lion’s volunteers will be on hand with activities for your partner.

This could be a very important new option for those who may have thought themselves alone and isolated as carer for someone who may no longer recognise them.

To find out more call into the Lion’s Charity Shop in Calle Torremolinos or call Sandie for an informal chat on 663 529 280 or email smtpackhorse@gmail.com.
