Benalmadena restaurant owner appears on BBC to welcome Brit tourists

SUE ASPEY, the owner of British restaurant The Wigan Bar in Benalmadena, appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning in a live interview to welcome British tourists to the Costa del Sol.

Sue who has lived here for 20 years explained to Naga Munchetty and her Breakfast co-host Charlie Stayt about how safe she feels on the coast.
“I believe it’s perfectly safe, we all have our families, we don’t want to have Covid here for any longer so all the bars and restaurants are sanitising. Somebody comes onto the terrace or into the building and they have to use the sanitiser immediately,” said Sue, who went onto stress that “I really do believe this is safe. I have no fears for my family, if they can come over, no fears at all.”

When questioned about the beaches she stated: “Sunbeds are at greater distances… there is a lifeguard station which would normally have one person throughout the summer, they have four people now, making sure of distancing and there are other patrols along the paseo.”

Sue pointed out that “The Andalucian Government seem really switched on. We feel safe. The holidaymakers who have arrived have said they feel safe.”

Hosts Naga and Charlie both aired their jealousy about missing out on the gorgeous sunshine and the lovely beach behind Sue. Even going so far as trying to encourage her to run and jump into the sea.

Sue finished by saying that “Anybody that is thinking about going on holiday… in Andalucia and Malaga, you will be safe.”
