Luigi Brugnaro, mayor of the city of Venice in northern Italy, announced on Tuesday that he will donate all the wages he hasn’t yet taken since 2015 to various charitable projects.
News site ANSA reports that Brugnaro has accumulated some 400,000 euros back pay and that the money would be given to 60 different social projects.
“I have been mayor often working 15-16 hours a day, but I’ve always said I would never take a single euro of public money,” said Brugnaro. “The only thing I get from the town council is my coffee.”
